Updating Community Plans: SMTF supporting M3CP

SMTF is supporting Martock's Community Partnership in reviewing it's 2007 Plan and producing a 2011 Plan.

Most Somerset Towns already have Community Plans, completed either as part of the Market & Coastal Towns Initiative (MCTi), during a Parish Plan process or similar.

Only Wiveliscombe has undertaken a review process (which you can read about on their Members page), and many of the Plans are getting to the point where they should be reviewed and updated/refreshed.

Martock's M3 Community Partnership (M3CP) invited Matt Day, SMTF Coordinator, to assist them in this work, and the SMTF Steering Group agreed that Matt could give some of his time to support and advise M3CP during this process.

Communities need to update their Community Plans in a smart and cost effective way - there isn't the money around as there once was for community planning - so it makes sense to develop what they already have, with updated issues, rather than starting from scratch.

Martock are developing a modest programme of consultations (public meetings, a presence at town events etc) and a focussed survey which will inform an updated Plan, to be published in Spring next year. A key element is an Update document - which contains a Summary of Acheivements and the survey.

This will give a narrative of 'here's what we agreed to do, we achieved these things, and we didn't achieve these (and this is why)', followed by specific questions on what still remains to be done on these issues and are there any additional/new issues that have come up since the 2007 Plan.

If other towns would like Matt's advice and support while undertaking an update  of their Community Plan, please contact him on 01458 252005 or by email at info@somersetmarkettowns.co.uk
