Green Event - The Ilminster Swap Shop

Ilminster Forum has organised the first Ilminster Swap Shop at Greenfylde First School on Saturday Sept 19th.

Those of a certain age will remember how Keith Chegwin and Noel Edmonds would encourage children across the country to swap their unwanted toys with each other.

Ilminster Forum is recycling the idea and is inviting everyone in the community to come along and swap their unwanted items.

The Ilminster Swap Shop will accept toys, books, CDs, DVDs, computer games, household items, bedding, babywear, garden implements, curtains or other suitable, clean unbroken things.

In fact you can swap most things except clothes, electrical goods, paint and anything dirty or broken. In addition to swapping items there will be local food, environmentally friendly products, electric vehicles, SEAT energy efficient cars, composting and wormery displays, recycling games and solar panel installers.

There will also be a gardening corner with the Sustainable Gardeners giving advice to those new to veg and fruit growing.

Children from Greenflyde School will be giving guided tours of the school’s allotment and Ilminster Alloment Association will be on hand to talk about saving water in your garden.

Carol Goodall, chairman of the Ilminster Forum, said: “We have organised Ilminster Swap Shop to help people reduce, reuse and recycle.

“There will be a host of activities and stands giving information about how people can swap an everyday lifestyle practice for one that will help them save money and reduce their carbon footprint.”
