Wellington 'Visioning' event successful

On the 20th November, Wellington held its first consultation event, which brought together business and community leaders to discuss their Vision for the town for the next 20 years.

It was hosted by Wellington Economic Partnership and led by Wellington Market & Coastal Towns Initiative Co-Chairman, John Pragnell.

Around 60 people attended, and ideas suggested included;

  • Pedestrianisation of the town centre
  • Re-opening of the town’s train station
  • A northern distributor road
  • Developing a multi-sports complex on the edge of town to be home to the town’s various sports clubs
  • Adding a glazed atrium to the Cornhill shopping area

These ideas and many others will be discussed during the rest of the process.

The Initiative is an innovative community based regeneration programme for market and coastal towns and their surrounding areas. It is led by and driven forward by the communities themselves and requires all those involved to think and work differently. At the heart of the Initiative is the preparation by local people of a long term community strategic plan covering the social, economic, environmental and cultural futures of their towns and surrounding rural area and the provision of support to enable such plans to be implemented.
