Presentations from regional Market Towns Conference, Tiverton
Somerset took 22 delegates to the SW Market Towns Conference on February 20th - and if you missed it, you can download the speakers and some of the workshop presentations here.
The workshops included one from Keith Wheaton-Green, South Somerset District Council’s Climate Change Officer, who explained the renewable energy options that towns can explore and the challenges they face in developing these. The Government’s recently announced Feed-in Tariffs may signal a boost in the number of schemes coming forwards.
Keith developed his expertise in hydropower, helping to deliver the South Somerset Mills Hydropower project, which involved installing turbines in 10 locations. He is currently working with a Dorset network to develop similar work, though pointed out that if all 30+ sites were developed, it would generate around half the electricity annually that would be generated by a large wind turbine.
Another workshop was run by Jessie Wainwright from Survive & Thrive, a project of the Development Trusts Association, which looks to share knowledge between community enterprises.
