Survey of Market Town Partnerships proves their worth
SMTF has conducted the first survey of Market Town Partnerships in Somerset, and the results reveal some great progress on projects and community engagement, driven by a huge amount of voluntary action.
Some key points;
Nearly 29,000 people have engaged in Community-Led Planning activity in Market Towns and large villages in Somerset since 2000
550 volunteers have worked in MT Partnerships since 2000
Volunteers hours since SMTF Member Towns’ Community Plans were launched total an estimated 97,600
Estimated amount of investment in Market Towns influenced by our Member Town organisations since 2000 is £4.125m - on an investment of around £0.5m!
Market Town Partnerships and SMTF can now use this evidence to call for more support from local authorities. We all know budgets are being cut but this survey shows the value to Somerset of these Partnerships of volunteers, and they should be given the Officer support and funding they deserve, which currently varies widely depending on which District/Borough they are in.
