Ilminster Old Railway Heritage Project wins best Environment & Culture in SW award
(Ilminster)
The Old Railway Heritage Project has won the Environment and Culture Category in the South-West Market Towns Awards, organised by Action for Market Towns.
The project involved people from the communities of Ilminster, Donyatt, Knowle St Giles and Chard, in developing interpretation of local heritage along the National Cycle Network route 33 trail, as well as new seating and the renovation of the Donyatt Halt. SMTF promoted these awards locally and helped the project to submit the application.
It was one of four finalists from the region who attended an event in Gloucestershire recently to receive their award from AMT and also find out which of the 4 would go through to the National Final, to be held at AMT's conference in Melton Mowbray.
Sadly the Railway project didn't win through, but winning the South-West Environment & Culture Category is a good achievement, and well done to all involved in the project.
