Action for Chard Town distributes remaining funds

Action for Chard Town decided to disband at its recent AGM and its final act was to distribute its remaining funds.

They organised an event on 28th July at the Laurel Centre, Chard. About 50 people attended the event and £6,300 was distributed.

Mary Pomfret from the partnership told me 'there was a good turnout from many groups in the town and a lot of networking between groups. It's a shame that that kind of networking and coordination can't be continued.'

The partnership decided to call it a day after four years because of a number of factors;

- low levels of support and interest from the wider community, shown by two AGM's where only the Committee attended
- a reduction in support from South Somerset District Council in the last two years
- they felt they were being 'replaced' by the Chard Regeneration Scheme

During their existence the group delivered a Feasibity Study for an 'Enviro Centre' (environmental business incubation centre), a Transport Study which helped to start a new bus service and 'Reservoir Days' (free events featuring local organisations at Chard Reservoir).

The groups who benefitted from the final funds were;

Manor Court Cubs, Chard Museum, Chard Amateur Theatre Society, Forefront Community Centre, 2nd Chard Boys Brigade, Avishayes School, Chard Methodist Pre-School, Parents of Langdon House Action Group, Foodwise Project at Chard Methodist Church, 2nd Chard Girls Brigade, Crowshute House Association, Chard Christmas Lights, Domino Christmas Collection Cart, Chard Disability Action Group, Chard Girl Guides, Manor Court Pre-School, Shine, Furnicare, Forton Community Hall Fund, Clare House NNI, Redstart Primary School, Chard Baptist Pre-School, Chard Young People’s Centre and the Laurel Centre.
