The 10 Parishes Festival

(Wiveliscombe)

The 2007 10 Parishes Festival has just ended and has proved to be a bit hit with local artists, residents and visitors alike, culminating with an atmospheric Festival Street Market on 15th September when the centre of Wiveliscombe was closed to traffic and people and fun reigned!

Over 35 stalls were offering the very best in local food and drink alongside artists selling their work.  The greenest carnival around processed through the street - The 10 Radio Wheelbarrow Carnival, and over 20 families created imaginative works of art in their wheelbarrows - in aid of our local community radio.  Music was played by a fabulous group The Albion Horns and the Wiveliscombe Town Band and local musicians played throughout the day to enhance the carnival like atmosphere.  Local food producers provided scrummy food all day, and it was all recorded by the BBC Somerset Sound bus - their fabulous mobile studio.

Artists reported brisk trade to their open studios and galleries; a Silent Film Festival attracted almost 550 people; poetry, music and shared memories were on offer throughout the whole nine days and the Festival has been celebrating all that is best about the community here in the western part of Somerset.

Look out for our final figures in a couple of weeks when we report back on the success of this year's 10 Parishes Festival.
